Pune, 6th November 2024: Punit Balan Group (PBG) wrestler and Maharashtra Kesari titleholder, Sikander Shaikh, has won the prestigious Rustam-e-Hind 2024 title in a competition held in Punjab. With this win, Shaikh becomes the fourth wrestler from Maharashtra to claim the coveted title. PBG extended its congratulations to Shaikh on his remarkable achievement.

Shaikh, who secured the Maharashtra Kesari title in 2023 as its 66th winner, has received career support from the Pune-based PBG. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Shaikh and PBG to provide this backing. Since then, Shaikh has achieved victories in various wrestling competitions, with the Rustam-e-Hind 2024 being the latest.

The Rustam-e-Hind 2024 competition took place in Jandla, Rupnagar (Nangal) district, attracting numerous renowned wrestlers. Shaikh emerged as the champion in a field that has historically been dominated by North Indian wrestlers. Prior to Shaikh’s victory, only three wrestlers from Maharashtra—Harishchandra Birajdar, Amol Buchade, and Asab Ahmad—had lifted the title, making him the fourth from the state to achieve this distinction.

Shaikh’s bouts against Roshan Kiralgad and Bagga Kohli were described as thrilling and spectacular. The winner’s award includes a mace, a tractor, and a cash prize.

It is a matter of great pleasure and pride that PBG has the privilege of supporting such skilled athletes. Shaikh’s success inspires us to support more talented players,” said Punit Balan, President of Punit Balan Group.
