Special Cover On Narveer Subedar Tanaji Malusare Released By Pune Postal Department
Pune, 7th January 2022: A Special Cover on Narveer Subedar Tanaji Malusare was released today by G Madhumita Das, Postmaster General Pune Region, Pune.
Tanaji Malusare was a military General of the Maratha Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He is known for re-capturing Sinhgad Fort from the Mughal empire.
The special cover has been released to pay tribute to his bravery and sacrifice for the motherland.
Dr Shital Malusare, a descendant of Tanaji Malusare, former MLA Kantatai Nalawade, Adv Narsinhji Lagad, Vijaysingh Rajemahadik, President, Akhil Bharatiya Maratha Seva Sangh, Parag Mate, Dattaji Nalawade and Govind Pimpalgaon, President, Mavala Jawan Sanghatana, Pune were also present during the program.
According to historians, Kondhana, located 25 km from Pune, was one of the first forts that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj wanted to re-capture from the Mughal Empire after the truce between the two parties broke down in 1670.
Tanaji was asked to lead the task. The capture of the fort was made possible by scaling the walls at night with ladders made of rope. The campaign to recapture the fort ended with victory for the Marathas, but at the cost of Tanaji losing his life in the battle.
The fort was renamed Sinhagad (Lion’s fort) by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in honor of Tanaji.
