Special team formed to probe Tiware dam breach
Mumbai, July 6, 2019 – The water resources department has constituted a special inquiry team for detailed high level inquiry into the loss of lives and property in the Tiware dam break tragedy in Chiplun Tehsil of Ratnagiri district. Soil and water resources department has brought a Government resolution according to which the inquiry team has been asked to submit inquiry report in two months.
The Tiware dam in Chplun Tehsil had broken after heavy rains on July 2nd which resulted in loss of lives and damage of property. The inquiry team has been constituted under the leadership of Avinash Surve who is secretary to the water resources department and is also managing director of the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation. The other members of the team are chief engineer (small irrigation projects), Ratnagiri district collector and Ratnagiri district police superintendent.
The inquiry team has been asked to find out reasons for Tiware dam breaking tragedy and fix the responsibility for the same. The team would also be suggesting measures for preventing such incidents regarding small irrigation lakes, percolation tanks-lakes, village lakes, Malgujari Lakes and all other similar water bodies. The Government today issued the Government Resolution in this regard.
