Pune, 6th January 2025: The grand ‘Know Your Army Mela 2025’ concluded triumphantly at the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), Pune, under the theme “Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena” (Empowered India, Capable Army). Organized by the Southern Command, the three-day event (January 3–5) drew an astounding 265,000 visitors, offering an immersive glimpse into the Indian Army’s dedication to national security and self-reliance.

The event commenced with an inaugural ceremony on January 3, graced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Addressing the gathering, Fadnavis underlined the deep connection between Pune and the Indian Army, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in bridging the gap between citizens and soldiers. “The ‘Know Your Army Mela’ provides a unique platform for citizens to interact with Army personnel and learn about the advanced technologies that strengthen India’s defense,” he said.

The event also served as a precursor to the upcoming historic Army Day Parade, set to take place in Pune for the first time on January 15, 2025. A teaser video unveiled during the mela invited citizens to witness the grand spectacle at the BEG Parade Ground.

Visitors were treated to an awe-inspiring display of military prowess, including advanced weaponry and cutting-edge technology. Highlights included Infantry and Special Forces equipment, the K-9 Vajra, 155 MM BOFORS, PINAKA, SMERCH, T-90 and BMP-II tanks, Air Defence systems, Robotic Mules, and Swarm Drones. An Indian Army Photo Exhibition, curated by the Central Bureau of Communication, provided a visual narrative of the Army’s journey and achievements.

Dynamic performances added to the event’s allure, featuring Martial Music by the Pipe Band, Martial Arts demonstrations, an Army Dog Show, Tent Pegging by the Equestrian Team, and traditional performances like the Khukri Dance, Gatka, Mallakhamb, and Kalaripayattu. These activities celebrated the Army’s valor and cultural richness, leaving visitors mesmerized.

The Southern Command ensured seamless arrangements, with well-organized access, smooth parking, and clear navigation for attendees. The meticulous planning contributed significantly to the event’s success, allowing visitors to enjoy every aspect of the mela without hassle.

Beyond the dazzling displays and performances, the event kindled a sense of patriotism among visitors, particularly the youth. The mela not only strengthened the bond between the Indian Army and the citizens of Maharashtra but also inspired young minds to consider a future in service to the nation.
