SPPU: Pune University Students Hold 18-Hour Study Campaign to Mark Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti

Pune, 18th April 2025: Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Postgraduate Students Association recently organized an ‘18-hour study campaign’ at the Jaykar Library of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr. Suresh Gosavi, Pro Vice -Chancellor, Dr. Parag Kalkar, Acting Registrar Dr. Jyoti Bhakere, Head of the Dean of Humanities Dr. Vijay Khare, Director of the School of Education Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav, Dr. Sudhakar Bokephode of Dr. Ambedkar Studies, Dr. Sadanand Bhosale, President of the organization Amol Sarvade etc. were present.

300 students participated in this activity. The activity started at 6 am and concluded at 12 pm.

Prof.Dr. Suresh Gosavi in his presidential address expressed the view that it is necessary to continuously strive to bring innovation in research by using modern ICT to conduct rigorous research. He proposed that innovative research should be conducted using new technological knowledge.

Dr. Parag Kalkar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University expressed, “While saluting Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, it will not be enough to study for just a few hours or a few days. Instead, students should keep a constant research perspective and maintain consistency in their studies. This will be a true salute to Dr. Ambedkar, this is the path that will show the direction of success”.

Prof. Dr. Adhav strongly affirmed, “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Postgraduate Students Association has been implementing educational and study activities on the occasion of Mahatma Phule and Ambedkar’s birth anniversary for about 35 years. He said, that one may forget to offer candles, incense sticks, garlands to the images of great men, but let us not forget the thoughts of great men that inspire us.”

Dr. Khare presented the concept of great men, as given by Ambedkar, and explained who exactly should be called a great person.

Dr. Bhakere gave information about the Preamble of the Constitution.

Sagar Sonkamble moderated the program, while Rahul Ruhi expressed the vote of thanks. The day ended on a thoughtful and insightful note.
