Punekar News's photo. The day didn’t only witness enthusiasm from the devotees of lord Ganesha but also from the students of Fergusson college, Pune. The event turned out to be a major success on Sunday, when hundreds of Ganpati idols were immersed at the end of 10 day festival.

The ghats were brimming with colours, idols of beautiful kinds, devotional music and festive euphoria. The students in collaboration with ‘Swach’ Pune organised a ‘Nirmalaya collection drive’ and an eco friendly Ganesh visarjan at the Garware ghats. The students contributed in nirmalaya collection and creating awareness on pollution through posters and personal conversations. They also directed the devotees to immerse the Ganapati idols in the 15 feet tank which was constructed for the same.

“It becomes really vital to educate people about the harmful effects of pollution and the need to go ‘eco friendly’ in today’s era. After all festivals are about happiness and spiritual contentment and not display of excessive wealth,” said Anirudh Dighe, the college coordinator of Swach.

“We did our bit hoping people will do theirs too,” he added.
