Pune, 24th May 2021: It has been raining in Pune and around since last week. Cyclone Tauktae has managed to disrupt activities more so that was already disrupted by the pandemic.

As a result of rain and heavy winds, Pune’s main market received less inflow of vegetables and fruits than usual. Thus, it made the rates of vegetables go up by 25%. Onion and Potato along with leafy vegetables faced a 15% rise in their price.

“Today we have got 70 trucks of vegetables and fruits. But due to the weekend lockdown, demand had risen more than supply. Hence, the prices of all the vegetables and fruits went up”, informed Vilas Bhujbal, president of the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Marketyard Adte (Traders) Association.

“It has been raining continuously in some parts of central Maharashtra and also in Pune. It has affected vegetables and fruits alike. Crops in the Pune region have faced the most difficulty as weeklong rain swept across”, added vice president Amol Ghule.
