Sunetra Pawar to Take Oath as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister
Pune/Mumbai, 30th January 2026: Sunetra Pawar is set to be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Saturday evening after being chosen as the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislative party. The post fell vacant following the untimely demise of Ajit Pawar.
According to party sources, a meeting of NCP MLAs has been convened at 11 a.m. on January 31 to formally endorse Sunetra Pawar as the legislative party leader. The oath-taking ceremony for the Deputy Chief Minister’s post is expected to take place later in the day.
Senior NCP leader and cabinet minister Chhagan Bhujbal confirmed the development while speaking to the media, saying the leadership decision would be finalised at the morning meeting.
Meanwhile, party leaders have conveyed to the Chief Minister their expectation that key portfolios earlier held by Ajit Pawar — Finance and Planning, and Excise — should remain with the NCP.
Further details regarding the oath ceremony and portfolio allocation are awaited.
