SuperGaming Highlights INR 2.5 Crore Prize Pool for Indus Esports as MIB Special Secretary Neerja Sekhar Visits Pune Office
Pune, 8th November 2024: SuperGaming, India’s leading game development studio, had the honour of welcoming and hosting Neerja Sekhar (IAS), Special Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, at their Pune office. During her visit, Sekhar experienced SuperGaming’s latest Indo-futuristic battle royale, Indus that has captivated the Indian gaming community since its October release. Sekhar engaged in an in-depth discussion with the SuperGaming team, exploring various facets of game development and gaining insight into the creative and technical processes behind the ecosystem.
The visit underscored the Ministry’s support for gaming as a viable career path and an essential aspect of India’s growing Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector. SuperGaming’s team shared insights into the game development process, the significance of Indus as a cultural export, and the opportunities gaming can provide to India’s youth in terms of skill-building and career growth.
Following its official recognition as a ‘multi-sport event’ by the Indian government, esports has driven notable growth in the country, with several states actively supporting the sector’s development. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recently bolstered this momentum by announcing the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), set for February 2025 in New Delhi. This event will host the inaugural, gender-inclusive WAVES Esports Championships (WESC) 2025.
Sekhar’s visit to the SuperGaming office further highlights the government’s commitment to nurturing the AVGC sector as a key player in India’s digital economy and creative landscape.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address, urged Indian game developers and talent to establish a presence on the global stage. Indus Battle Royale stands as a powerful response to this call, symbolising India’s expanding impact in the global gaming landscape.
With a commitment to building a thriving esports ecosystem and promoting new talent on the global stage, SuperGaming also recently launched the ‘Clutch India Movement,’ a year-long esports initiative. It will begin with the Indus International Tournament, which features India’s largest prize pool for a battle royale game at INR 2.5 crore.
