New Delhi, February 9, 2021: The Supreme Court has barred the arrest of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and senior journalists. Among the people who have been granted relief by the top court are journalists Rajdeep Sardesai, Anant Nath, Paresh Nath, Vinod Jose, Mrinal Pandey, Zafar Aga, including Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.  Apart from this, the Supreme Court has also issued a notice on the demand for cancellation of FIRs registered in other states including UP.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and journalist Rajdeep Sardesai turned to the Supreme Court last week in opposition to the FIR lodged against them for misleading tweets over the tractor parade of agricultural law farmers on Republic Day. Journalists Mrinal Pandey, Zafar Agha, Paresh Nath and Anant Nath had motioned Supreme Court in opposition of these FIRs.

Delhi Police had registered a case against Tharoor, Rajdeep, ‘Caravan’ magazine and others on 30 January. Earlier, Noida police had registered a case of sedition on Tharoor and six journalists with violence and other charges during the tractor parade in Delhi. The Madhya Pradesh Police has also registered a case against Tharoor and six journalists for allegedly making misleading tweets on violence during the tractor parade in Delhi.

On January 26, in Delhi, a tractor overturned and killed the person. The tractor parade happened on 26 January in Delhi to urge the government to withdraw the three agricultural amendments that the farmers have been against for months now. But soon chaos spread and fierce violence ensued on the streets of Delhi.
