Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Asking To Remove 26 Verses From Quran, Impose Rs 50,000 Fine On Petitioner Wasim Rizvi

New Delhi, 12th April 2021: The country’s top court has refused to interfere in any religious scripture. The Supreme Court has also imposed a fine of 50 thousand rupees on the petitioner along with dismissing the petition of the removal of 26 verses from the holy Quran.

Wasim Rizvi, former chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the removal of 26 verses of the Quran. He had alleged that many youths are misguided by teaching these verses.

A bench headed by Justice RF Nariman in the Supreme Court heard the petition on Monday. During the hearing, the counsel for the petitioner said that I know all the facts about this petition. On this, the Supreme Court said that this SLP is not writ and how serious you are about your petition. To this, the counsel for the petitioner said that these verses are taught in madrasas, students are misguided by this, by teaching and explaining these verses, terrorists are prepared at the international level.

On this, Justice RF Nariman said “this is an absolutely frivolous writ petition”. The court also dismissed the petition with a fine of fifty thousand rupees.
