Supreme Court Rejects Pleas Of Tamil Nadu Minister And Wife In Money Laundering Case

New Delhi, 7th August 2023: On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed the pleas of Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji and his wife, Megala, in their challenge against the Madras High Court has upheld the arrest of the individual in a money laundering case, affirming the legality of the decision. The matter was heard by a bench comprising Justices A S Bopanna and M M Sundresh, who have also referred the issue of permissible police custody beyond the initial case has been remanded for further review to a larger bench, extending the duration to 15 days.

Despite his arrest on June 14, Balaji continues to hold the position of a minister without portfolio in the Tamil Nadu government. The case against him and his wife pertains to allegations of involvement in a cash-for-jobs scam within the state’s transport department.
