Pune, 4th March 2025: Statements defaming the victim in the Swargate rape case have been circulating on social media and other platforms, causing mental distress to the survivor. In response, Adv. Asim Sarode has urged the court to issue a restraining order to prevent further harm.

On Monday (3rd March), Adv. Sarode submitted an application to the court, emphasizing that such statements—particularly claims suggesting that the incident was consensual rather than rape—are damaging to the victim’s mental well-being. He pointed out that while the accused was arrested 72 hours after fleeing, certain remarks made by the defense lawyers in court, as well as on social media, have contributed to the victim’s distress.

Sarode also highlighted the importance of press freedom, stating that the media should report on court proceedings responsibly. However, he accused some politicians and officials of spreading misinformation about the case, further complicating the situation. He urged the court to take immediate action to prevent any further character assassination of the victim girl.
