Task Force Formed for Land Acquisition in Pune; Focus on Katraj-Kondhwa Road and Phule Memorial Projects
Pune, 8th July 2025: In a bid to ease traffic congestion across the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to form a dedicated task force to fast-track land acquisition processes. The joint task force will include officials from the Maharashtra revenue Department, Maharashtra directorate of town planning, and PMC.
The decision was made during a review meeting chaired by PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and attended by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi. The task force will oversee 42 land acquisition proposals submitted by PMC, 34 of which are related to road development projects.
Commissioner Ram stated that land acquisition for three key roads—Katraj–Kondhwa, Satara–Mumbai, and Pune–Hadapsar–Solapur—will be completed by August 2025. In addition, land acquisition for infrastructure projects like the Suncity–Karvenagar bridge, Mahatma Phule Wada, and Savitribai Phule Memorial will also be expedited.
The task force will hold weekly meetings to assess progress and resolve bottlenecks through inter-departmental coordination. District-level meetings led by the Collector will be conducted monthly to monitor developments.
Commissioner Ram revealed that PMC urgently needs to acquire land for 82 vital projects, requiring an estimated budget of Rs 5,000 crore. Given the financial constraints, the civic body will also pursue land deals using Transferable Development Rights (TDR) and Floor Space Index (FSI) benefits. However, land acquisition for the Katraj–Kondhwa Road has been prioritized, and state funding is expected to support this phase.
He also confirmed that phased funding will be arranged as per project needs. Moreover, a notification will soon be issued for immediate land acquisition required for the approach road to the upcoming bridge from Suncity to Karvenagar.
