New Delhi, 21st November 2025: Tata Digital, the Tata Group’s flagship digital services arm, is preparing for a sweeping organisational overhaul under its new Chief Executive Officer, Sajith Sivanandan. According to sources, the company is set to slash its workforce by more than 50 percent as part of its third major strategic reset since its launch in 2019.

Sivanandan, who took charge in September and previously served as President of Jio Mobile Digital Services, is steering a shift away from the earlier Gross Merchandise Value (GMV)-driven approach. The renewed strategy focuses on integrating digital operations across the Tata Group and strengthening Tata Neu as a unified ecosystem.

Insiders said Tata Digital has already consolidated the digital marketing functions of Titan, IHCL, Tata Motors, and Tata Consumer Products. The move is aimed at developing Tata Digital into a central in-house digital engine that will streamline operations and reduce costs.

BigBasket and Croma—two key businesses in the group’s consumer portfolio—are also under detailed evaluation. BigBasket’s quick-commerce division, BB Now, is receiving special attention as it competes aggressively with Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart. At Croma, the company has begun shutting down select loss-making stores and refocusing on an “offline-first” retail model to improve profitability.

The new strategic push revolves around three core priorities: expanding financial services, consolidating marketing services, and creating a unified loyalty engine that will integrate rewards across the Tata Group on a single platform.

Despite the restructuring, Tata Digital’s financial performance showed mixed signals in FY25. Operating revenue declined 13.8 percent to ₹32,188 crore, even as net loss narrowed significantly from ₹1,201 crore to ₹828 crore, indicating early signs of cost discipline under the new leadership. The company declined to comment on the development.

Industry watchers say Sivanandan’s aggressive steps signal a determined effort to put Tata Digital on a stable, sustainable, and profitable trajectory amid intensifying competition in India’s digital commerce landscape.
