Metro, Ring Road and NHAI Highway Overlap Triggers Land Row Near Pune
Pune, 21st November 2025: Tension is rising in Kadamwak Vasti (Loni Kalbhor) and Jambhulwadi after three major infrastructure projects — a new Metro corridor, an elevated highway by the NHAI, and the PMRDA Ring Road — were all proposed to run through the same stretch of land. Residents, who have lodged their objections with the PMRDA, say the revised alignments will destroy homes, farmland, and natural water sources, prompting strong local protests.
PMRDA’s 128-km Ring Road, intended to ease congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, has already been delayed for years due to land acquisition hurdles. Under the latest alignment, nearly 17 acres in Kadamwak Vasti and around 23 hectares in Jambhulwadi fall within the project’s footprint, further intensifying opposition.
The State government recently cleared the Ramwadi–Kharadi–Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor Metro line, which is also planned to pass through this zone. Additionally, the NHAI has proposed an elevated corridor here to streamline traffic towards the Pune–Solapur highway. With all three projects converging on the same area, PMRDA has increased the Ring Road width to 75 metres in this segment, placing more houses and agricultural plots at risk.
Why locals are opposing the projects:
* Large tracts of land in Jambhulwadi and Kadamwak Vasti will be acquired
• Houses and farmlands lie directly on the revised alignment
• Natural water bodies may be damaged or diverted
• The region has already surrendered land earlier for the Mumbai–Bengaluru highway
“Metro, National Highway, and Ring Road all pass from this point, so the alignment has to be adjusted. We are speaking to the affected families and will try to find a suitable solution,” said PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Yogesh Mhase.
