Tata Power organized ‘Jal Poojan’ at Devgaon village in Khandke site for water conservation

Pune, 19th September, 2016: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always been committed to the conservation of natural resources in its operational areas and sensitised its communities towards the ways in conserving natural resources, especially water. In line with the commitment, Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) organised ‘Jal Poojan’ ceremony at Devgaon village, Khandke site in Maharashtra. The ceremony also marked the pledge from close to 15 villagers for organ donation from the region to give independent life to the needy for the sake of humanity and love. Dr. Anil Kawade, District Collector (IAS Officer), Ahmednagar was the Chief Guest for the program.
 
The site of Khandke and Supa had faced severe drought conditions which prompted the need for Watershed Management programs in the region. TPCDT stepped ahead to initiative the program as part of its corporate responsibility and to start positive environment on water conservation with the support of the local community and other stakeholders in the business cluster of Khandke – Supa Site. Through this initiative, Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) strives to ensure to strengthen the watershed management activities to make the villages water independent. The water conservation efforts will significantly help the farmers during the Kharif season and will be a bonus during the Rabi crops.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & Executive Director, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power has always emphasised in conservation of natural resources and have always strived hard in sensitising its people and the members of its communities on the importance of these resources. We had recently built a check dam at village Devgaon and had repaired another one at Ranjani village. We had also repaired the public wells in the region to address the issue of water for agriculture and household usage. Our dedicated team along with the locals have helped in addressing and sensitizing the villagers on the conservation of water. We will also strive hard to ensure that these programs are organized on a regular basis and more people are benefitted.” He further added, “We are extremely happy to encourage the villagers for the noble cause of organ donation and will ensure to extend every possible help for the villagers in their daily lifestyle.”
 
The Jal Poojan ceremony was attended by the District Collector, Tehsildar, District Information Officer, Circle Officer, Revenue Officers, Gramsevak, along with staffs from PHC, ICDS, Primary School, Village Head (Sarpanch), Members of the Grampanchayat and other dignitaries from Tata Power.

The efforts of TPCDT were well appreciated by Dr. Anil Kawade, District Collector (IAS Officer), Ahmednagar, who was Chief Guest for the occasion of Jal Poojan.  He explained all aspects of water conservation in terms of success and natural source of its successes a rainfall. He further emphasized that communities should have ownership in maintenance and caring of the water sources.
