Tata Technologies and BMW Group Forge Partnership for Automotive Software and IT Solutions

Munich (Germany) and Pune (India), 2nd April 2024: In a significant development, the BMW Group and Tata Technologies, a leading global provider of product engineering and digital services, have announced a collaboration to establish a Joint Venture (JV) aimed at setting up an automotive software and IT development hub in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai, India. The formation of the JV is contingent upon review and approval by relevant authorities. Key development and operational activities will be based in Bengaluru and Pune, with Chennai focusing on business IT solutions.

The partnership, rooted in the ethos of ‘engineer in India for the world’, will harness Tata Technologies’ digital engineering prowess and talent pool in India to bolster the BMW Group’s strategic augmentation of software coding capabilities across global IT hubs and round-the-clock operations. The JV will concentrate on strategic software development, with a particular focus on solutions for software-defined vehicles (SDV). Automotive software will center on automated driving, infotainment, and digital services, while business IT will prioritize the digitalization and automation of product development, production, and sales processes. The JV will kick off with 100 trained and seasoned Tata Technologies professionals making immediate and substantial contributions to software projects, with expectations of rapid expansion to a four-digit workforce in the coming years.
