Jammu, 21st December 2023: In a tragic incident on Thursday, terrorists ambushed an army truck in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the martyrdom of three soldiers and injuries to two others.

The attack, marked by continuous gunfire, occurred in the Dera Ki Gali (DKG) area on the Thanamandi-Surankote road. This marks the second terrorist assault on the army in the region in less than a month, following the November 22 encounter in Rajouri that claimed the lives of five soldiers.

Security forces had initiated a cordon and search operation against terrorists in Surankote and Bufliaz on Wednesday night, preceding the attack. The army, in contact with the security forces involved in the operation, promptly dispatched additional forces to the region.

Former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid, commented on the situation, asserting that the attack on the army vehicle was a meticulously planned move by Pakistan. Vaid highlighted that terrorists aim to disrupt the positive changes witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370.

In a related incident, a blast occurred in a police camp in Surankote on the night of December 19-20, causing significant damage to vehicles in the vicinity. The blast was reported a day before the Rajouri ambush.

Intelligence reports indicate a concerning scenario, with 250-300 terrorists poised to infiltrate into India from the Pakistan border. A senior BSF officer, on December 16, alerted that security forces are on high alert, ready to thwart any attempt of infiltration.

BSF IG Ashok Yadav emphasized the vigilance of security forces in sensitive areas and underscored the importance of cooperation from the people of Kashmir. He stated that the bond between security forces and the locals has strengthened in recent years, urging continued cooperation for effective development efforts.

Recapping the last six terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, the situation remains grim, with frequent encounters and attacks on security forces. The latest ambush in Rajouri adds to the series of security challenges faced by the region.
