Pune, 18th February 2024: The story of Indian warfare extends over 5000 years. It begins right from the battle of Kurukshetra, and spans the centuries that followed. Amongst the earliest ones are the battle of the Jhelum River fought between Alexandra and Porus in 326 BC, which was the first battle between an Indian ruler and outsiders. Another significant turning point in Indian history was in 1192,  when Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated by Mohammed Ghori in the Second Battle of Tarain. The three battle of Panipat – the first between Babar and Ibrahim Lodhi, the second between Himu and Akbar and the third between the Marathas and Ahmad Shah Abdali has also shaped Indian history. And of course, the Battles of Palashi and Buxar were instrumental in bringing British rule to India.

The post-independence battles of 1947-48, 1962, 1965, 1971 and Kargil have all shaped the destiny of modern day India. All these momentous wars of Indian history have been encapsulated in an exclusive video on the “The Story of Indian Warfare” – composed by noted Indian historian Ajay Singh. The video covers the major battles of India’s history right from Kurukshetra to the modern day – complete with rare photos, maps and sound effects to make the battles come alive.
