Pune, 8th November 2023: The Yamaha YZF-R1, showcased at the ongoing EICMA show in Milan, Italy, is set for an imminent launch in India. This motorcycle boasts the most powerful engine ever featured in a Yamaha model destined for Indian roads and tracks. With a robust 998 cc engine, it delivers an impressive 200 horsepower. It’s worth noting that the Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M had been absent from the Indian market since 2018, when their production was halted. Now, with their reappearance at the EICMA show, Indian roads are soon to witness their return, potentially making it official in 2024.

The 2023 iteration of the Yamaha YZF-R1 will receive a notable update, focusing on optimizing air flow for a smoother performance. This includes the addition of winglets on the front fairing, designed to generate downforce and enhance stability during braking. Moreover, strategically placed air vents will facilitate improved cooling around vital components like the radiator and engine, resulting in a more advanced design and aggressive styling. Powering the Yamaha YZF-R1 is a 998 cc liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve, DOHC engine, producing an impressive 197bhp at 13,500 rpm and peak torque of 112.4nm at 11,500 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

In terms of safety features, the Yamaha YZF-R1 is poised to benefit from a comprehensive suite including slide control, launch control, anti-wheelie control, unified braking system, banking-sensitive traction control, dual-channel ABS, quick shift, and assist clutch. This array of features not only ensures a smooth ride but also enhances precision during gear changes, ultimately bolstering safety. The suspension setup comprises adjustable 43mm telescopic forks at the front and an adjustable rear monoshock, while the braking system is anticipated to feature disc brakes on both wheels, though specific details on the braking system have yet to be disclosed.

Similarly, the Yamaha YZF-R1M, absent from the Indian market since 2018, is set to make its return. Designed for racing tracks, this super bike mirrors the Yamaha R1 in purpose and performance. Expected to hit the Indian market in 2024, the YZF-R1M is anticipated to feature a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth functionality, and a Google Map turn-by-turn navigation system. This includes a range of vital information such as speedometer, tachometer, trip meter, gear position, fuel gauge, service indicator, stand alert, temperature reader, ABS mode, and clock.

Under the hood, the Yamaha YZF-R1M is projected to be equipped with a 998 cc liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve, DOHC engine, delivering 197bhp at 13,500 rpm and peak torque of 112.4Nm at 11,500 rpm, coupled with a 6-speed gearbox. Its safety features align with those of the R1, offering slide control, launch control, anti-wheelie control, unified braking system, banking-sensitive traction control, dual-channel ABS, quick shift, and assist clutch. Suspension duties are likely to be handled by adjustable 43mm telescopic forks and a rear monoshock, while the braking system may include four-piston calipers and dual discs at the front, and four-piston calipers paired with a single disc at the rear.
