This police station in Pune to have only women staffs crime detection

Pune, February 8,2020: In a first, a team of female cops will take over the mantle from their male counterparts at Detection branch (DB) of Yerwada police station, Pune city police. The cops are experimenting to curb malpractices.

The work of Detection branch staffs is to have knowledge about the police station area, records of all known criminals. They should have good network of informers (Khabri). After a crime is reported they are among the first to reach the crime scene for investigation. Another task is to have fear of DB among criminals.

Now the team will be led by a woman Police Sub Inspector and have seven woman constables. This is said to be unprecedented move in the history of Maharashtra police, reported Pune Mirror newspaper.

The all-men team at the DB was disbanded following repeated allegations of corruption and being hands in glove with criminals.

Senior Police Inspector Yunus Shaikh, in-charge of Yerawada police station, issued an order on February 3 stating that PSI Shubhangi Magdum, who has been investigating crimes against women cases.

The newspaper quoted DCP (Zone 5) Suhas Bawache saying that women are less prone to settle cases and push some under the rug to make an extra buck. Many team members were found to be settling cases for pecuniary gains. Women do not normally get into such underhand deals.
