Three Separate Incidents Of Violence Reported In Pune On Holi; Investigation Underway
Pune, 17th March 2025: Pune witnessed three violent incidents on the occasion of Holi (Dhulivandan), with cases of assault recorded in Yerawada, Koregaon Park, and Katraj. Police have registered separate complaints and are investigating the matter.
Case 1: Attack Over Color Dispute in Yerawada Leaves Siblings Critically Injured
In a shocking incident in Yerawada, a teenage girl and her younger brother were attacked with a Koyta and stones after questioning a group for throwing colors at her. According to the complaint filed at Yerawada Police Station, the 17-year-old girl had gone to a local grocery store when a group of individuals threw colors at her. An argument ensued, following which her younger sister and 11-year-old brother stepped in to confront the attackers.
Enraged by their objection, the group assaulted the younger sister with a sickle and threw a stone at the brother’s head, leaving him seriously injured. Both siblings were rushed to the hospital and are currently receiving treatment in the ICU. Yerawada police have registered a case against six individuals, and Assistant Police Inspector Vibhute is leading the investigation.
Case 2: Assault During Holi Event In Koregaon Park
A young man was assaulted during a Holi celebration in Koregaon Park. Ankit Manakeshwar Singh (26), a resident of Keshavnagar, Mundhwa, filed a complaint at Mundhwa Police Station. Singh was attending a music event in Koregaon Park when he got into an argument with a group of people. The altercation escalated, and the group physically assaulted him, pushing and hitting him. A case has been registered, and Assistant Police Inspector Kalpana Survase is investigating the incident.
Case 3: Attack Over Holi Colors In Katraj Leaves Youth Injured
Another violent incident was reported in Katraj, where a young man was attacked over a dispute related to applying colors. Rohit Bhagwan Patil (21), a resident of Santosh Nagar, Katraj, filed a complaint at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station.
Patil was walking through Santosh Nagar when two individuals attempted to apply colors to him. When he objected, an argument broke out, and the accused attacked him with a stone and a metal object, injuring him. The police have registered a case against the two accused, and Constable AP Bhosale is handling the investigation.
