Thunder Cells Over Pune Region Bring Heavy Rains, Lohegaon Gets 36.6 mm Rainfall

Pune, 29th May 2021: Pune received 24 mm on Saturday evening within a short period of time. A Thunder cell was formed over the Pune region which brought the rain. The accumulation of Cumulonimbus clouds over the region gave heavy rain within a short time. The Lohegaon area received 36.6 mm rainfall.
Head weather department, Indian Meteorological Department Anupam Kashyapi said, “there are chances of thundery activity over Maharashtra State on Sunday too mainly in the afternoon hours”.
Several areas of the city including Vimannagar, Lohegaon, Aundh, Pashan, Sangvi, Baner, Kothrud, Sinhgad road received rain. The cloud started accumulating in the afternoon followed by a strong spell of rain. The city received rain till 8.30 pm.
Rain in Maharashtra
IMD has predicted rain in the state till June 3. Kashyapi said, “A well-marked low-pressure area over eastern Uttar Pradesh till Vidarbha and southern Madhya Pradesh passing through Vidarbha, Telangana and Rayalseema till southern Tamil Nadu will bring rain in the state”.
Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha will receive intermittent rain along with thundering, lightning. Heatwaves too are expected in Vidarbha.
Monsoon onset
Although there was no advancement in Southwest Monsoon on Saturday, the conditions are likely to become favourable for the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala around May 31st 2021.
