Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Pune Region; NDA Gets 111 mm Rain, Magarpatta 81.5 mm in 24 Hours

Pune, 22nd May 2025: Heavy pre-monsoon showers drenched several parts of Pune district in the last 24 hours, with the National Defence Academy (NDA) area recording the highest rainfall at 111 mm, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune on Thursday morning.
Other areas that received significant rainfall include Magarpatta (81.5 mm), Dudulgaon (68 mm), Dhamdhere and Purandar (39.5 mm each), and Rajgurunagar (31.5 mm). Popular residential and commercial zones like Hadapsar, Koregaon Park, Wadgaon Sheri, and Pashan also witnessed moderate rainfall ranging between 11 mm and 25 mm.

Meanwhile, the IMD issued a nowcast warning at 7 am today, alerting residents of Pune and nearby districts — including Palghar, Thane, Nashik, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Dharashiv, and Beed — about possible thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light rain, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h over the next 3 to 4 hours.
Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity, avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles, and remain cautious while commuting.
Weather experts say these showers are part of intensified pre-monsoon activity over Maharashtra, likely influenced by cyclonic circulation and moist easterly winds.
