TikTok bans Faizal Siddiqui for posting video ‘glorifying’ acid attack on women

Pune, May 19, 2020: Popular TikTok user Faizal Siddiqui has sparked outrage, after uploading a video in which he is allegedly promoting an acid attack on women and is seen portraying the attack as a response to a breakup.

His account has been banned; many people took to social media and demanded action against him. The video can’t be seen on his page now. But in the video, he recreates the scene of an acid attack where he’s seen throwing water on a girl, which is hinted to be acid while threatening her for leaving him for someone else. In the next scene, the girl’s face is shown in heavy red makeup suggesting burns and a disfigured face.

Faizal, who has 13.4 million followers on TikTok, and regularly uploads videos with such themes, but this one, in particular, has sparked an outrage, a cybercrime complaint has been filed against him, and many are demanding that his account should be suspended. Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga a BJP leader shared this video with Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), soon after this many social media users bashed the Tik-Toker for the clip.

Rekha Sharma said that such videos promote violence against women, and send a wrong message to society. Acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal took to Instagram, where she lashed out at Faizal and thanked NCW for cognizance of the video.
