Trader Claims GST Officers Beat Him With Plastic Rod, Files Complaint With Pune Police

Pune, 17th September 2022: Arjunsingh Balsingh Rajput, a scrap trader, has lodged a complaint with Bundgarden police station stating that he was assaulted by officers of the central Goods and Services Tax (GST). However, no FIR has been registered till now.

On September 6, Arjunsingh received a summon from a GST officer of Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) Pune Zonal Unit. He was called on September 8 for an inquiry about a business.

According to the complaint letter, “Complying with the call, Arjunsingh went to the GST office on the mentioned date and met the officers. They forced him to accept the unjustified GST liability. When Arjunsingh refused to comply with them and to do as told, they behaved rudely with him and also beat him.”

On September 13, he received a summon from DGGI Pune Zonal Office regarding the same inquiry and was asked to come the next day. On September 14, one officer behaved very rudely with Arjunsingh and beat him with a plastic rod, the complaint states.

As per the letter, ” At around 9:30 pm, Arjunsingh visited Bund Garden Police Station. Police asked him to go to Sassoon Hospital to get treated for his wounds.”

On September 15, Arjunsingh submitted the medical reports along with his application, but to date, he hasn’t received the copy of the FIR. Now he has written to the Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta also.

His relatives and friends also staged a protest at the police station. Police officials said that they are enquiring into the allegations.

There has been no statement from DGGI on the matter till now.
