Traffic Diversions Announced on Pune-Nagar Road for Bhima Koregaon Anniversary

Pune, 24th December 2025: The Pune City Traffic Police have announced significant traffic diversions and road closures on the Pune-Ahilyanagar highway to manage the massive influx of followers expected for the 208th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon at the ‘Vijay Stambh’ (Victory Pillar) in Perne Phata.

According to a press release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav, the traffic modifications will be in effect from 00:01 AM on December 31, 2025, until 24:00 (midnight) on January 1, 2026.

Road Closures for General Traffic To ensure the safety of devotees and prevent congestion, the Pune-Ahmednagar Road will be closed to all heavy vehicles and general traffic between Kharadi Bypass and Shikrapur.

Entry is restricted for general vehicles from Kharadi Bypass, Wagholi, Lonikand, Theur Phata, and Tulapur Phata toward Perne Phata.

The Markal Bridge on the Indrayani River will be closed to heavy vehicles; only light vehicles carrying devotees will be permitted.

Alternative Routes for Commuters
Commuters traveling between Pune and Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) or Mumbai and Ahilyanagar are advised to use the following alternative routes:
1. Pune to Ahilyanagar : Traffic is diverted via Kharadi Bypass -> Hadapsar -> Solapur Road -> Kedgaon Chaufula -> Nhavara -> Shirur.
2. Mumbai to Ahilyanagar : Vehicles should proceed via Talegaon Dabhade -> Chakan -> Shikrapur.
3.Solapur Road to Alandi/Chakan: Vehicles should take the route via Hadapsar -> Magarpatta -> Kharadi Bypass -> Vishrantwadi -> Alandi.

Arrangements for Devotees
The administration has designated specific routes and parking arrangements for followers visiting the Victory Pillar:
• From Mumbai/Thane: via Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway -> Wakad -> Chakan -> Shikrapur.
• From Solapur/Marathwada: via Solapur-Pune Highway -> Kedgaon Chaufula -> Nhavara -> Shirur.
• From Satara/Kolhapur: via Katraj -> Mantarwadi Phata -> Theur Phata -> Kesnand.

Police have established 19 designated parking zones at locations including Lonikand, Tulapur Phata, and areas near the Khandoba Mal to accommodate two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and buses carrying devotees.

Heavy Vehicle Ban
A strict ban on all heavy vehicles (trucks, dumpers, mixers, multi-axle vehicles) entering Pune city limits has been imposed for the duration of the event. Heavy vehicles will be stopped at entry points including Theur Phata, Harris Bridge, Navale Bridge, and Mantarwadi Phata.

Essential service vehicles, including ambulances, fire brigades, and police vehicles, are exempt from these restrictions. The Traffic Branch has urged citizens to cooperate with the changes to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the commemoration.
