Interfaith Relationship Dispute Turns Fatal in Pune’s Ambegaon Area

Katraj, 24th December 2025: A 34-year-old man was allegedly murdered in the Ambegaon area on Monday evening after being attacked with a sharp weapon over a personal dispute linked to his friendship with a woman. Pune police have registered a murder case against two suspects, who are currently absconding.

The deceased has been identified as Javed Khwaja Miyan Pathan, a resident of Khwajanagar in Bhokar taluka of Nanded district. The accused have been named as Sandeep Rangrao Bhurke (25), also a resident of Bhokar, and one of his associates. A complaint in this regard was lodged by Rauf Usman Sheikh (35), who currently resides at Bhumkar Chowk in Narhe.

According to the police, Pathan had developed a friendship with a young woman who is related to Bhurke. The accused reportedly objected to the relationship and had warned Pathan earlier. On Monday around 7 pm, Pathan was standing near a washing centre in the Ambegaon area when Bhurke and his accomplice confronted him and allegedly demanded that he end the relationship. Following an argument, the duo attacked Pathan with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries.

Pathan was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Sassoon General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment the same night.

After receiving information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Milind Mohite and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rahul Aware visited the spot. Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zhine said police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused at the earliest.
Police Inspector (Crime) Gajanan Chormale is carrying out further investigation into the case.
