Traffic Police Constable Assaulted With Iron Rod On Duty, Two Persons Arrested

Chakan, January 31, 2021: Two men attacked a traffic police constable on duty at the main chowk in Chakan with an iron rod. The policeman fell unconscious on the spot due to the sudden attack.

Policeman Ravindra Namdev Karwande (30) is critically injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Pimpri Chinch police Crime Branch Unit 3 officials have arrested the two accused.

According to police, the incident took place around 2.30 pm on Saturday. Due to the jam, the traffic policeman asked the accused to take their container back. ‘Don’t you have common sense?’ saying this, he shouted at the accused. This led to a verbal duel between the traffic police and the accused. Later, the accused came on a two-wheeler and hit him on the back of the head with an iron rod. The two immediately fled the scene.

Due to the sudden attack, Karwande collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. This shocking incident has been captured on CCTV.

The accused have been handcuffed by a team of Crime Branch Unit 3 from Kharabwadi. The arrested accused are Rohit Babu Salvi (20) and Harshdeep Bharat Kamble (22). The accused has confessed to the police that they had attacked with an iron rod out of anger.

The action was taken by a team under the guidance of DCP (Crime Branch) Sudhir Hiremath. The investigation team included Senior Police Inspector Shankar Babar and Police Sub Inspectors Prasanna Jarhad and Girish Chamle, Head Constables Yadu Adari, Gangaram Chavan, Police Naik Nath Kekan, Constables Raj Hanmante, Shashikant Nangre, Sagar Jainak and Trinayan Balsaraph.
