Pune, 8th May 2023:Tourism companies in Pune are seeking government help after Go First airline filed for bankruptcy and abruptly suspended flight services, leaving tourists and businesses in the lurch.

The Travel Agents Association Pune (TAP) held a press conference on May 6, demanding that the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation intervene to assist the affected parties. TAP officials have cited the impact on tourism firms and travelers who had pre-booked and paid for flights, hotels, and local services. They also criticized Go First’s policy of issuing refunds in virtual accounts that can only be used to purchase the airline’s tickets, leaving tourists with no recourse if the airline goes bust.

TAP has requested that other airlines take up Go First’s routes, and that ticket prices not be raised for the next two months. The association also urged the airline to provide refunds directly to the bank accounts of tourism companies, and for hotels and other service providers to refund tour companies in the event of trip cancellations. TAP emphasized that government intervention is necessary to ease the impact of Go First’s sudden suspension of services on the tourism sector.
