Pune, 8th April 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the Pune Rural Police have arrested two individuals involved in a series of robberies targeting women. With their arrest, five such cases have been solved, and valuables worth over ₹7.16 lakh, including gold ornaments and a motorcycle, has been seized by the Local Crime Branch (LCB).
The arrested accused have been identified as Anil Somnath Gavane (31), resident of Gavanewadi, and Anil Narayan Gavane (25), resident of Danewadi — both from Shrigonda taluka in Ahilyanagar district.
According to Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, the case unfolded after a complaint was filed by Indubai Pansare at the Junnar Police Station. On March 11, while she was walking towards her old house on the Pimpalgaon Siddhanath–Ganeshkhind road, two unidentified persons on a motorcycle forcefully snatched her mangalsutra and a gold garland worth ₹1.8 lakh.
The LCB launched a parallel investigation and scrutinized CCTV footage from the area. Investigators identified the motorcycle used in the crime — a Hero Splendor — and tracked it heading toward the Shirur area. Acting on a tip-off from a confidential informant, a police team laid a trap in Danewadi and arrested the suspects.
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the two accused were involved in similar thefts across Junnar, Shikrapur, Shirur, and Alephata post office limits. Police have recovered 8 tolas and 8 grams of gold jewellery along with the motorcycle used in the crimes.
The total recovery in the case is valued at ₹7,16,793. The accused have been handed over to the Junnar Police, and the court has granted judicial custody remand.
