Pune: Godambewadi Becomes India’s First ‘Constitutional Village’ Under Ghar Ghar Samvidhan Campaign
Pune, 8th April 2025: In a unique and inspiring move, Godambewadi No. 1, a small village nestled in Mulshi taluka of Pune district, has been declared the country’s first ‘Constitutional Village’. This landmark recognition comes under the government’s Ghar Ghar Samvidhan (Constitution in Every Home) initiative.
Leading this grassroots revolution is Vijay Vadverao, a dedicated teacher at the Zilla Parishad Primary School in Godambewadi. Vadverao, who has been passionately working as a Constitution Ambassador across Maharashtra, spearheaded a campaign to ensure that every household in the village receives a copy of the Indian Constitution and understands its significance in daily life.
Bringing the Constitution Home
The Constitution Awareness Campaign was launched on November 26, 2024, marking Constitution Day. Vadverao, along with his students, went door to door across the village — not just to distribute free copies of the Constitution, but also to explain the rights, duties, and powers it guarantees to every citizen.
“Each family received a copy of the Constitution, and a sticker reading ‘Constitutional Family’ was affixed to their doors. We even numbered the families to keep track of progress”, said Vadverao said. So far, about 120 families have been included in the campaign.
This outreach wasn’t limited to just homes. Students took the message to brick kilns, farms, and construction sites, ensuring that even migrant workers, farmers, and laborers were included in the fold of constitutional awareness.
Students as Change Agents
Vadverao also trained his school students to become young Constitution Ambassadors, even providing them with uniforms from his personal funds. At an age when most children are memorizing poems and math tables, these students have memorized the Preamble to the Constitution and understand their fundamental rights and duties.
“Instilling constitutional values in children ensures a stronger, more informed citizenry tomorrow,” Vadverao noted. “They took it upon themselves to explain these concepts to their own families and neighbors.”
A Community Effort
The success of this initiative is also attributed to the collective support of the village. The School Management Committee, local leaders, teachers, parents, and villagers all came together to promote the effort. Key supporters include Pradeep Godambe, Chairman of the School Management Committee; Vaishali Kumbhar, Sarpanch of Ghotawade Gram Panchayat; and educators from the Rihe center including Shashikant More and Adinath Borkar.
