Two constables booked for extorting Rs 25,000 from man for visiting redlight area

Pune – An FIR has been registered against two police constables of Faraskhana police station for allegedly taking Rs 25,000 from a man after threatening to register case against them for visiting the redlight area in Budhwar Peth.

The incident took place on May 6 afternoon at Raviwar Peth police chowky under Faraskhana police station. The accused policemen have been identified as Ganesh Sonawane and Anil Raskar.

The complainant was going in his car on Laxmi road where the two policemen stopped him during nakabandi check. They took his license, mobile and car key saying case will be filed against him for visiting the red light area.

They demanded Rs 30,000 for not filling case. Later the complainant withdrew Rs 25,000 from ATM and handed over it to them. After that the accused gave his phone, license and car key.

The complainant lodged a complaint through e-mail following which an FIR was registered. Police Inspector (crime) Amrut Marathe is further investigating the case.
