Two Pilgrims From Pune Died In Cloudburst During Amarnath Yatra: District Admin

Pune, 9th July 2022: Two pilgrims from Pune died in a cloudburst at Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Pradip Natha Kharade of Pimpri and Sunita Mahesh Bhosale of Wadgaon Budruk. Kharade died of a heart attack, according to the district disaster management department.

A group of 255 pilgrims from Pune had gone to Amarnath with Gajanan Maharaj Khedekar and Gajanan Maharaj Sonawane. Kharade had gone to Amarnath Yatra in a private vehicle through Gurukrupa Travels. He was admitted to a hospital in Amarnath after suffering a heart attack. He died at 4 am during treatment. His body has been sent to Pune in a private ambulance. All the pilgrims with him are currently safe in Baltal base camp.

The Pune district administration informed that all the pilgrims will start their return journey on Sunday (July 10).

Gajanan Sonawane along with 55 pilgrims and managers had gone to Amarnath. Sunita Bhosale, a member of his group, died in the accident. She is accompanied by her husband Mahesh Bhosale and Nanand Prema Shinde. Sunita’s body has been airlifted to Jammu. The other 20 pilgrims in the group reached Baltal parking tent safely.

Out of the remaining 35, 34 pilgrims are safe in the army camps, the disaster management cell said.
