Two Years on the Run: Murder Accused Arrested in Pune

Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Shivajinagar, 15th March 2025: After evading police for two years, a 29-year-old fugitive accused of murder was finally arrested in Pune. The accused, who had been absconding following action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), was caught with two pistols and four live cartridges.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Pandit Anna Kamble (resident of Tadiwala Road, Pune Station). Kamble, who had committed a murder as a minor, was also previously arrested in a pistol smuggling case, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill.
On August 15, 2023, Kamble and his accomplices brutally murdered Nitin Mohan Mhaske (35, Tadiwala Road) in front of Mangala Cinema, Shivajinagar, as part of a gang rivalry. Following the crime, the Shivajinagar police arrested 17 accused, and action was taken under MCOCA. However, Kamble managed to escape and remain in hiding for two years.
Acting on a tip-off that Kamble would be visiting Dattawadi, police laid a trap and successfully apprehended him. During the arrest, the police seized two pistols and four live cartridges from his possession.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP Sandeep Singh Gill, Assistant Commissioner Sainath Thombre, and Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant. The team included Inspector Chandrakat Suryavanshi, Sub-Inspector Ajit Bade, and police personnel Rupesh Waghmare, Bhau Chavan, Pramod Mohite, Rajkiran Pawar, Mahavir Walte, Atul Sathe, Sachin Jadhav, Praveen Dadam, Sudam Tayde, and Shrikrishna Sangve.
After absconding, Kamble hid in Goa and Karnataka under a fake identity. He avoided using a mobile phone, making it difficult for law enforcement to track him. To communicate with his relatives, he stole mobile phones from unsuspecting citizens, further complicating his detection.

Kamble has a history of serious crimes, with two murder cases and four other serious offences registered against him. His criminal activities were spread across Tadiwala Road, Bund Garden Road, Dattawadi, and Dandekar bridge.
