Underage Drinking at Freshers’ Party: Pune Police Issue New Guidelines for Pubs and Colleges
Pune, 25th August 2025: After it was found that underage students were served alcohol during a freshers’ party at Kiki Pune, a pub located in The Mills near Pune railway station, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued strict directives to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The commissioner noted that certain pubs and bars in the city were serving liquor to minors in violation of excise rules and were also hosting freshers’ parties for college students, which is against prevailing laws.
In a circular issued with immediate effect, Kumar instructed that:
1. All bars, pubs and FL-III licensed establishments must verify the age of customers through DigiLocker documents before granting entry.
2. Colleges must alert and advise students not to participate in such parties.
3. Event managers who organise freshers’ events at pubs and bars will be held criminally liable if found violating the rules.
The move comes amid growing concerns about underage drinking and unsafe party culture in Pune’s nightlife hubs. Police have also indicated that enforcement drives will be intensified to ensure compliance across popular establishments.
Authorities have urged parents, students, and colleges to cooperate in curbing the trend of underage alcohol consumption, warning that violators will face strict action.
