Undri, Mohammadwadi Residents Raise Road Safety Concerns With Pune Police Commissioner

Pune, 29th September 2026: Residents of Undri, Pisoli, Mohammadwadi, Yeolewadi and Kondhwa have raised concerns over the increasing number of road accidents in the area and submitted a representation to Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, seeking urgent measures to improve road and traffic safety, particularly in Mohammadwadi.
The representation was submitted by Ashok Keshav Mehendale, former member of the Education Board of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and president of Sainik Mitra Parivar and Kartavya Dharma Pratishthan, along with Raj Singh, founder of Sikh Helpline Foundation, Pune.
The residents highlighted a series of fatal and serious road accidents reported in the area. They specifically referred to the September 21 accident outside Raheja Vista Premier Society in Mohammadwadi, in which 20-year-old Ibrahim Sarkar was killed, while his friend Qais Mohammad Khan sustained serious injuries. The representation also raised concerns over the reported delay in the arrival of an ambulance following the incident.
According to the representation, several people have lost their lives in road accidents in the wider area in recent months, while many others have suffered serious injuries. The signatories have called for an assessment of accident-prone locations and immediate preventive measures.
Heavy vehicles and road conditions under scanner
Residents have raised concerns over the frequent movement of water tankers, dumpers, concrete mixers and trucks carrying construction material through residential and densely populated areas.
The representation also highlights issues such as inadequate traffic-police deployment, reckless driving, speeding, insufficient traffic signals and warning signs, inadequate speed-control measures, roadside parking, and roads dug up for various works and left unrepaired.
The residents have sought an increase in traffic police personnel and traffic wardens, installation of CCTV cameras at accident-prone locations, speed breakers and rumblers, and improved traffic signage.
They have also requested stricter enforcement of P1/P2 parking restrictions and No Parking zones, particularly along the road from NIBM Junction towards Katraj.
Regulation of heavy vehicle movement sought
The representation seeks stricter regulation of heavy vehicles in residential areas and proposes restricting their movement, subject to applicable regulations and emergency requirements, to between 2 pm and 4 pm and 11 pm and 6 am.
Residents have also raised concerns about water tankers being parked outside housing societies while supplying water, with pipes allegedly being laid across public roads. They have requested that tankers be parked within society premises during water-supply operations and that water pipes be routed inside the premises.
Police chowky demanded near Raheja Circle
In view of the rapid growth in population and traffic, the residents have also demanded the establishment of a police chowky under the jurisdiction of Kalepadal Police Station near Raheja Circle, along with a dedicated traffic-police facility.
They have suggested that amenity spaces provided by builders be inspected to identify a suitable location for the proposed police and traffic facilities.
The representation further seeks the formation of a joint committee comprising Pune Municipal Corporation officials, Roads Department representatives, traffic consultants, police officials, elected representatives and citizens to inspect Ward 41 and identify accident-prone locations.
The residents have urged the Pune Police and PMC to coordinate and implement immediate road-safety measures, stating that stronger enforcement, improved infrastructure and better emergency response are necessary to prevent further loss of life in the rapidly developing areas of southeast Pune.
