Hinjawadi Garbage Problem: Pune PMC Ready to Help Until PCMC System Is Restored
Pune, 29th September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has offered to assist with garbage collection in Hinjawadi IT Park, as the area continues to face waste management challenges.
The assurance was given during a meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Monday to discuss infrastructure and civic issues affecting Hinjawadi and Chakan.
Hinjawadi, a major IT hub, and Chakan, an industrial area, have been facing several civic and infrastructure-related issues. During the meeting, a ₹1,800-crore plan for Hinjawadi and Chakan was approved, along with discussions on addressing the garbage accumulation problem in Hinjawadi.
Fadnavis directed the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to assist in resolving the waste management issue in Hinjawadi. However, the PCMC indicated that it would not be able to immediately take up garbage collection in the area due to operational constraints following an accident at its Moshi waste depot a few months ago.
Against this backdrop, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram offered assistance from the Pune civic body for garbage collection in Hinjawadi.
“Although Hinjawadi is far from us, the municipal corporation will help them. We should cooperate with each other. Once the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s system is restored, it will also take up the work,” Ram said.
The development comes amid continuing concerns over waste management and civic infrastructure in the Hinjawadi IT Park area, which attracts a large workforce and experiences significant daily movement of employees and vehicles.
