Shivajinagar, 22nd March 2025: In a much-needed relief for commuters, the Pune city traffic police are set to reopen the Range Hills Chowk-Shivajinagar stretch for vehicular traffic in the next few days. The route had been closed due to ongoing Metro construction, forcing vehicles to take a longer detour via Sinchan Nagar Road and Agriculture College since last year.

Officials have confirmed that Metro construction work on this stretch has reached its final stages, allowing for a phased reopening of the road. Commuters have frequently complained about the increased travel time and congestion due to the re-routing, prompting authorities to take action.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for traffic, Amol Zende, stated on Friday that steps are being taken to gradually reopen the stretch over the next four to five days.

To ensure a smooth transition, the traffic police are coordinating with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which is constructing the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar elevated Metro line along this stretch. Additionally, two Metro stations are being developed beyond Range Hills Chowk towards Shivajinagar.

Apart from the Metro viaduct, work on a flyover in the same area is also in progress, adding to the complexity of traffic movement. The restrictions have been particularly challenging for commuters coming from Aundh and Baner, as diversions begin even before reaching SPPU Chowk.
