Maharashtra Govt Plans Digital Integration of CBSE, ICSE Results for FYJC Admissions
Pune, 22nd March 2025: In an effort to enhance transparency and curb malpractices in First-Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions, the Maharashtra government is working on integrating CBSE and ICSE students’ results data directly into the state’s admission system. This move aims to eliminate the risks associated with manual verification of scores, which led to a major admission scam last year.
The initiative follows an admission fraud uncovered at three colleges under the Somaiya Group, where students were found to have submitted fake marksheets and leaving certificates. A routine audit had revealed that at least 50 students had secured seats using falsified documents, resulting in the arrest of four individuals, including college clerks.
To prevent such incidents, the School Education Department is in discussions with the Central Government to obtain students’ results data directly from DigiLocker, a government-backed digital storage platform for academic records.
“We have successfully linked the system with CBSE results through DigiLocker and are currently working on a similar arrangement with the ICSE board. The aim is to streamline the process and reduce dependence on manual verification,” said Sachindra Pratap Singh, Maharashtra’s School Education Commissioner.
At present, the marks of SSC students from the Maharashtra State Board are automatically linked to the FYJC admission system. However, students from CBSE and ICSE schools must manually enter their details, which are then verified at colleges or designated verification centers.
In addition to DigiLocker integration, the government is introducing alternative verification methods to cross-check student scores. Colleges will be instructed to use the Umang portal, a government application offering multiple services, to verify marksheets by entering students’ seat numbers and dates of birth.
“We are trying to make the best use of available digital resources to ensure a fair and transparent admission process. Efforts are also underway to retrieve historical data from DigiLocker to facilitate verification for previous years,” Singh added.
While discussions with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) for ICSE data integration are ongoing, the government remains committed to closing loopholes in the admission process and ensuring a more secure and efficient system for students and institutions alike.
