Unseasonal Temperature Fluctuations In Pune As Heat Wave Hits Early

Pune, 12th February 2025: Pune is experiencing unusual weather patterns, with chilly mornings giving way to scorching afternoons as temperatures steadily rise across the city and district. Typically considered one of the coldest months of the year, February has instead brought a surprising mix of cold and heat, signaling an early onset of summer conditions.

While Mumbai has reported a drop in temperatures, Pune and other parts of western Maharashtra are seeing an increase in both minimum and maximum temperatures. The inconsistency has led to a unique weather pattern where cold spells are brief and quickly replaced by intense afternoon heat. This shift is particularly notable as February is usually marked by consistently cooler weather.

In contrast, regions like Niphad have recorded a sharp temperature drop to 8°C, further complicating weather predictions. Experts attribute these fluctuations to shifting wind patterns and regional climatic variations.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune and North-Central Maharashtra can expect a slight drop in minimum temperatures by 2°C to 4°C over the coming days. Northerly winds are forecast to sweep into North-Central Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and adjoining areas starting Wednesday night (12th February) and continuing through the morning of 14th February. These winds are expected to bring cooler nights, temporarily easing the unusual warmth.

Despite this predicted drop, residents are already feeling the early arrival of summer heat, with afternoons becoming increasingly uncomfortable. Weather experts suggest that such erratic patterns may become more frequent due to broader climatic shifts.
