Pune: Rising Demand Ahead Of Valentine’s Day Drives Up Rose Prices In Market Yard

Market Yard, 12th February 2025: With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the demand for roses has surged, leading to a significant hike in prices at the Market Yard’s wholesale flower market. The price of a rose bouquet has climbed to ₹300, and traders expect further increases in the coming days.
Flower farmers, anticipating the annual spike in demand during Valentine’s Week, have strategically reserved their rose supplies. As the festive day approaches, they are releasing these flowers into the market, where a bunch of 20 roses is currently selling for ₹150 to ₹300, depending on quality. This marks a 20% to 30% price increase compared to last year, when similar bouquets were priced between ₹100 and ₹220. Traders indicate that if demand continues to rise, prices could escalate even further.
Roses are being sourced from local regions including Talegaon, Jategaon, Indapur, Yavat, Shirur, and Purandar. These flowers are not only meeting local demand but are also being dispatched to cities like Surat, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Goa, and Bengaluru.
This year’s favorable climate has resulted in higher-quality roses, with larger blooms and vibrant colors, according to traders. The abundant local supply has been sufficient to meet demand, effectively halting the import of roses from other states.
As Valentine’s Day draws nearer, both buyers and sellers are closely watching the market, with expectations that prices may peak just before 14th February.
