Pune, 17th March 2025: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged a protest outside the District Collector’s office in Pune, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. The protesters claimed that the tomb symbolizes oppression, servitude, and historical atrocities. They urged the Maharashtra government to act swiftly, warning that if the tomb is not removed soon, they will take an aggressive stance and carry out a “Kar Seva” to remove it themselves.

The protest was organized on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti- birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj according to the Hindu Calendar- with activists raising slogans against Aurangzeb’s tomb. The demonstration saw significant participation from members of VHP and Bajrang Dal.

Speaking at the protest, VHP regional minister Kishor Chavan stated that a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister regarding this demand. He further warned that if the government fails to act, the organizations will escalate their agitation and take matters into their own hands by removing the tomb through Kar Seva.

The agitation was part of a statewide campaign, with similar protests being carried out across Maharashtra. The organizations have indicated that this is only the first phase of their movement, and they will intensify their efforts if their demand is not met.
