Pune, February 18, 2021: There is a big difference between when colleges were allowed to start and now. Everyone should be careful as Corona patients are currently increasing. Instructions have already been given to start colleges considering the local situation. Though the colleges are now open, the decision to close the colleges should be taken by the concerned university vice-chancellor and the district collector if the corona outbreak spreads, Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant said.

Sawant was in Pune for the first ever ‘open house’ of the state Higher and Technical Education Department at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

He further said that a sub-centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University and a sub-centre of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University will be set up at Pune, Nanded, Aurangabad and Ratnagiri. Similarly, the agreement required for the commencement of Pune University’s course at Doha, Qatar has been approved by the Maharashtra State Government.

The minister further informed, “Approval has been received to fill 260 vacant posts in the state. The remaining vacancies will then be filled. The Department of Higher Education has been directed to review the current number of vacancies in the recruitment of professors. The state government is positive to erect a memorial of Savitribai Phule at Pune University. The university should send a proposal for this and it will be approved.”
