Pune, 26th August 2023: In an unexpected turn of events, a conversation implicating a staff member of the examination department at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has come to light. The dialogue captured instances of alleged bribery involving a student seeking his mark sheet.

These revelations, which unfolded at the institution on Saturday evening, led to a protest by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) outside the examination department. A video substantiating the claims has been made public.

“This incident exposes a university employee caught in the act of accepting a bribe, further highlighting the growing corruption within the university,” stated ABVP in an official statement. The accused employee, identified as Nevase, was apprehended red-handed by ABVP members while allegedly accepting a sum of three thousand rupees from a BA student named Pratham Bhandari.

Late into the night, ABVP representatives engaged in discussions with the Vice-Chancellor concerning the incident. The allegations come against a backdrop of students grappling with challenges such as an extensive syllabus being covered in a short span, limited time for exam preparation, and delays in result declarations following completed exams.

In a climate where the errors of colleges, professors, and examination departments have already disrupted the lives of students, this alleged bribery case has intensified concerns. The alleged misconduct has raised significant questions about the overall functioning of the university and its examination department.

Dr Mahesh Kakade, Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, stressed a zero-tolerance policy towards bribery within the examination department. He affirmed the department’s commitment to assist all students in taking appropriate legal measures.
