Viman Nagar Traffic Crisis: AAP Seeks Joint PMC- Pune Police Inspection
Pune, 17th August 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has submitted a memorandum to the Pune civic administration, raising concerns over increasing traffic congestion, unauthorised parking, encroachments and pedestrian safety issues in Viman Nagar, Ward No. 3.
The memorandum was submitted to the Assistant Commissioner at the Nagar Road Regional Office on Monday following an initiative led by Sheetal Vishwanath Kandelkar, AAP Pune city president for the education department.
According to the memorandum, the rise in the number of vehicles has resulted in significant traffic congestion in Viman Nagar, particularly during morning and evening peak hours. Unauthorised roadside parking, encroachments and other obstructions are also affecting traffic movement and creating safety concerns for pedestrians, women, senior citizens and school students.
The AAP has demanded a joint inspection by Pune Municipal Corporation officials and traffic police at major congestion points in Ward No. 3. It has also sought regular action against unauthorised parking, removal of encroachments obstructing traffic and the designation of no-parking zones with clear signage at appropriate locations.
The party has further called for clearing and securing footpaths for pedestrians, providing zebra crossings and safer road-crossing facilities wherever required, and installing speed breakers and directional signboards.
It has also sought better traffic management near school and residential society entrances and adequate deployment of traffic police personnel during peak hours.
“Residents of Viman Nagar are facing traffic congestion every day. This is not merely a traffic issue but a serious matter concerning the safety of citizens. The administration should conduct an inspection within the next eight days, prepare a concrete action plan and begin its implementation,” Kandelkar said.
She further warned that if concrete measures are not initiated within eight days to address traffic congestion, unauthorised parking and road obstructions, the party would consider taking a constitutional, democratic and peaceful protest route to raise residents’ concerns.
The memorandum also called for a long-term traffic management plan for Viman Nagar, considering the area’s increasing vehicle population and the need to prevent future traffic-related problems.
