Violent Clash Erupts in Katraj Over Cricket Dispute, Police Investigation Underway

Katraj, 21st March 2024: In the Katraj area of Pune, tensions escalated between two groups who had gathered to resolve a dispute stemming from a cricket match. What began as a disagreement over cricket soon spiraled into a heated argument, leading to one group opening fire on the other. No one was hit by the gunfire, but in the ensuing chaos, two youths sustained minor injuries during the stampede. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station on Wednesday (20th March) evening, and the process of filing a case is currently underway.

According to police reports, the dispute originated from a cricket match played between the two groups in the Katraj area on Tuesday. Seeking to resolve their differences, both groups convened near an under-construction building in the area, with the presence of a history-sheeter further exacerbating tensions. As attempts were made to mediate the conflict, a verbal altercation ensued, culminating in a young man brandishing a knife at the history-sheeter. However, before any harm could be done, another individual intervened, preventing the knife from reaching its target. Although a firearm was discharged during the altercation, no injuries resulted directly from the gunfire. The confrontation left two youths with minor injuries.

Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officers from the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station promptly arrived at the scene to gather details. Several individuals have been detained for questioning, including both the accused and the complainant. The police are currently investigating the incident thoroughly, and the process of filing a formal case is underway.
