Beed, 11th July 2025: A routine road inspection in Khadki village, Vadavani taluka, turned into a moment of panic after a truck collapsed in front of an engineer, narrowly missing workers and locals present at the site. The incident, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media, raising fresh concerns about the condition of rural roads and construction site safety in Beed district.

The engineer had visited the site on Wednesday to inspect ongoing road renovation work following complaints by local students, who had earlier approached the Chief Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana office. The students had demanded the construction of an alternative route, citing the inconvenience and risks posed by ongoing bridge work at the location.

According to eyewitnesses, while the inspection was underway, a truck moving along the poorly maintained road suddenly lost balance and collapsed. People standing nearby ran for their lives, with some even jumping into a pit dug for the bridge construction to escape being crushed.

“It was sheer luck that no one was injured or killed. The situation was extremely dangerous,” said a local resident who witnessed the chaos. The video clearly shows the crumbling condition of the road and the panic that ensued as people screamed and scrambled for safety.

The viral footage has reignited public anger over the state of infrastructure in Beed, a district already grappling with rising incidents of crime and administrative negligence. “There are roads so bad that schoolchildren are forced to take risky paths daily. If authorities had acted earlier, this situation could have been avoided,” said a concerned parent from the village.

Locals have also questioned the judgment of the truck driver for attempting to drive through such an unstable patch of road. However, the broader blame appears to rest on systemic failures in road planning and maintenance.
