Pune, 21st July 2022: Pune is referred to as the educational capital of India. Many individuals, especially students, come to the city for work and to study. The cultural importance of Pune is also one of the major factors that attract tourists from all across the country as well as from foreign countries. All of these factors make Pune a very preferable destination which makes it even more important to increase the international connectivity of Pune with other countries.
Talking about connecting Pune internationally, Sudhir Mehta, the President of Maratha Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), tweeted, “Had a call with the CEO of @airvistara along with @Girbane. Discussed opportunity for international air connectivity for Pune. Vistara is keen to start a Pune Singapore flight subject to allotment of traffic rights. @MCCIA_Pune will request authorities in Delhi to expedite.”
“We have also requested a late evening flight from Pune to Mumbai and Delhi to facilitate international air connectivity from those airports,” he said.
He added, “We also requested direct Dubai & Bangkok flights. While there is huge traffic potential, these are not possible unless the civil aviation ministry & foreign affairs allot landing rights for these destinations as part of reciprocal arrangements.”
Many people on Twitter appreciated the efforts of Mehta and shared their thoughts regarding the same.
One user wrote, “A good initiative. Pune city is not subordinate to Mumbai or any other Metro city. This initiative will reduce traffic to Mumbai thus decongesting it and direct flights will bring about direct investment from overseas, and resultant employment.”
Another user tweeted, “A direct connection between Pune and Singapore will surely solve connectivity for travellers, but will also bring many jobs and enhanced economic benefits as businesses in Singapore plan their ’Global Capacity Centers’ in India.”
